The compelling film, "Maxed Out" exposes the rising debt levels, and filing bankruptcy seems to rise parallel to those numbers. Due to these statistics, debt settlement proves to be a viable solution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

American consumer debt has more than doubled over the past ten years, and household debt levels are surpassing household income by over eight percent, so Magnolia Pictures takes the time to document this festering fascination with consumer spending. The compelling documentary, “Maxed Out” tragically depicts financially distraught households dealing with the fact that they have used their credit cards as a way of living; sending them to a state of bankruptcy. Not only does this film dissect the disastrously growing interest rates, but it points out the staggering, increasing bankruptcy statistics.

Captivated and compelled by this exposé, Debt Settlement America (DSA) watched “Maxed Out” at an “All-Hands” Company meeting on August 10, 2007. The purpose of showing this film was not only to reinforce the emotions involved in a financial hardship, but to come together as a company to prove why DSA is in business. Shawn Burdick, Negotiations Manager at DSA mentions, “Although DSA staff sees the aftermath of severe credit card debt on a daily basis, we appreciated seeing a fact-based documentary on the subject.” Agreeing with Burdick’s comment, DSA’s Director of Business Development, Ted Dixon says “A powerful look into how so many normal people get sucked into credit card debt and then stuck in the ugly world of high interest rate credit card debt. This film truly validates to how important the Debt Settlement industry is for people who need a solution other than bankruptcy to resolve this problem.”

Given the reason for watching the film as a company, DSA intends to also incorporate the documentary in the training of all debt consultants. The training manager for DSA Debt Consultants, Dana LaRue explains, “Better than anything I have ever seen, “Maxed Out” shows what our clients are going through. I try to explain what our potential clients are going through in training with new debt consultants, but if you have never been in trouble like this, or don’t know anyone that has, it can be hard to relate.”

As the nationwide consumer debt-to-income ratio continues to rise, DSA will continue to target those individuals who are going through the same types of financial troubles shown in this film. Although any form of debt relief or credit repair is not necessarily brought up in this documentary, debt settlement is ideal for those individuals who are experiencing a financial hardship such as Serious Illness, Divorce or even Loss of Employment. Rick Simpson, Debt Consultant quotes “This film truly legitimizes the need for consumer-based debt relief programs. One common theme throughout the film is that the only requirement to OBTAIN credit card debt is the ability to breath…ELIMINATING debt is not that easy. Debt settlement is the only program that works strategically for the debtor to provide a realistic debt elimination program that is designed around the needs of the consumer.”
