From Workers’ Comp Claimant to Valued Employee – Injured Employee’s Can Return to Work. New book will help Florida employers implement a proactive return to work program.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Boca Raton, FL - Lost work days is a billion dollar crisis hidden in the American workforce. New book, written by Margaret Spence and published by DCRC Training Group, challenges employers to reduce lost work days by implementing a comprehensive return to work program.

The National Safety Council estimates that there were 80 Billion lost work days in 2005 due to work related injury or illness. They further estimate that injures cost US employers over $160.4 Billion in workers’ compensation cost, lost wages and lost productivity. Historically, the workers’ compensation laws have not adequately supported the return to work process – it is much easier to offer an injured employee a settlement than it is to give them the opportunity to return to gainful employment.

During her years as an adjuster, Margaret made countless phone calls to employers asking them if light duty jobs were available. Nine out of ten times the employer would say, “No, We have nothing available. The employee can not come back until he is full duty”. Finally in frustration she started asking employers, “Why can’t you make an effort to bring the employee back to work.” The employer would inevitably respond, “I am afraid he or she will file another claim.” Through these conversations, Margaret realized that employers do not understand the impact of injuries and lost work days, on their ability to run a profitable business.

Return to work - light duty immediately invokes negative feelings for employers, because they do not have the appropriate policies or procedures to seamlessly integrate the injured employee back into their workforce. When treating physicians issue light duty restrictions, employers must have a plan in place to bring the employee back to work - immediately.

Two years ago when Margaret made the decision to write this book, she recognized that she would have to change the way employers view light duty before she could motivate them to implement pro-active return to work policies. This book had to do three things:

1. Change the perception of light duty.
2. Quantify the cost of not implementing a return to work program.
3. Provide employers with clear steps that will result in a positive return to work experience.

From Workers’ Comp Claimant to Valued Employee - is the most comprehensive employer guide to implement a return to work program in Florida. This book is a complete, how to do it manual, step-by-step – chapter by chapter, employers will learn how to establish policies and company wide programs for handling workers’ compensation injuries before, during and after they occur.

Because this book is written specifically for Florida employers it incorporates the State Forms, Rules, Laws and techniques with practical instructions and smart tactics – making it an outstanding resource guide for Florida employers.

This book is written in an easy to read style that won’t overwhelm employers with technical jargon and irrelevant statistics. Full of easy to read instructions, handy checklist, to do lists and hundreds of valuable tips… From how to hire employees, to how to structure training programs, to how to complete workers’ compensation paperwork, conduct accident investigations and select the clinics that treat injured employees… techniques employers can be implement - immediately.

Margaret’s book could not come at a better time. Recent workers' compensation rate reductions in Florida and the pending United Parcel Service (UPS) ADA - Return to Work Class Action litigation will force employers to implement proactive return to work programs or risk increased premiums or litigation because they violate the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.

From Workers’ Comp Claimant to Valued Employee can be purchased starting today online at: Work Comp Seminars Bookstore. The book will also be available at local bookstores in January.
