FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Metropolitan, Kansas City's new luxury high-rise building, has downtown buzzing with urbanites celebrating their first holiday in the city.

To Maureen Shields, celebrating the holidays in the city is very different than the suburbs. She adorns her spacious two-bedroom loft at the Metropolitan with stockings and a nativity scene. "You notice a different style downtown with the Power & Light District. It's decorated in a modern way, but still has that classic holiday feel. It even smells like Christmas!" she said.

Shields, who is a project developer of Outside the Box Ministries, is one of eleven children so family traditions are a way of life. Now that she is living downtown, Shields plans to start some of her own, including visiting Union Station and having dinner at Fritz's Railroad Restaurant. Shields is also planning take her nephew, Zeph, ice skating at Crown Center's Ice Terrace. "My neighbor has family visiting from California and we're going to introduce the kids to this Kansas City tradition," said Shields.

Nancy Anderson, account director of Barkely, will also test out her 'ice-legs' at the Crown Center Ice Terrace after dinner at one of the new restaurants in the Power & Light District. Anderson says she will participate in an ornament exchange with her friends at the Cashew and like so many Kansas Citians, she will go to the Nutcracker.

Anderson, one of the Metropolitan's first buyers, feels that the holiday spirit enhances the strong sense of community at the Metropolitan. "It's the people that make my 'Christmas in the city' so special. Living downtown just caters to a more social atmosphere; there are more people to share the Christmas spirit with," said Anderson.
