Peak Otolaryngology immediately benefits from voice-recognition EMR.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Provo, Utah (PRURGENT) September 21, 2007 -- A Provo, Utah, otolaryngology practice spent two frustrating years mastering the learning curve of its expensive Electronic Medical Record system before deciding to salvage the situation by purchasing a new product.

After implementing voice-recognition-based ChartLogic EMR in March this year, Peak Otolaryngology physicians were able to use the system immediately, some achieving proficiency within days, according to practice administrator Tim Prusse.
"Compared to our previous system, ChartLogic is more stable, user-friendly, automates more of our daily tasks and improves interoffice communication," Prusse said. "Without a doubt, ChartLogic EMR met and exceeded our expectations. They did an outstanding job of training our physicians and staff, and made implementation a great success."

Peak's Prusse said the ease and speed with which Peak Otolaryngology physicians were able to produce tangible results from ChartLogic EMR was a significant relief after having labored for a long time over a product that did not meet Peak's needs. Peak physicians are now able to navigate ChartLogic EMR through voice commands that recognize the voice of each physician.

Peak prides itself on providing the highest quality of healthcare regardless of the computer system used, Prusse said, "however, ChartLogic EMR has significantly streamlined our operations and boosted staff efficiency."

The return on investment was immediately evident as Peak transcription costs were all but eliminated following ChartLogic's installation. "Prior to ChartLogic EMR, transcription costs averaged about $2,500 per month," Prusse said. "With the EMR, transcription costs have decreased to about $200 per month. Savings in transcription services alone more than pays for our cost for ChartLogic EMR."

ChartLogic's EMR system is implemented in 25 workstations in Peak Otolaryngology. Seven exam rooms each have a workstation where physicians complete some of their dictation in addition to dictating in their offices. Peak is comprised of two physicians, two nurse practitioners, an audiologist, an allergy clinic and three medical assistants. All use ChartLogic extensively. The practice's three-person billing department uses ChartLogic to access their providers' notes in order to complete their coding.
