YouMe Support Foundation, partnering with winaresort.com announced a world first fund raising project. In the next few months a boutique South Pacific island resort, in Port Vila, will be given away to a lucky winner, along with a tax-free income. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
YouMe Support Foundation will give away Seachange Lodge, a boutique resort with a tax-free income, in the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu.
YouMe Support Foundation is solely dedicated to providing non-repayable higher-education grants for students, who are geographically and economically underprivileged. Their communities have little, or no cash economies and assistance from the government is nonexistent.
“Unless we get help from outside," Mr Harris Apos, the Banks Area Secretary said, "Our high achieving students will never go to high school. They will never realize their dreams of becoming a school teacher, doctor, mechanic, pilot, or nurse.“
Pencils are broken into three. One exercise book is shared between three pupils. School rooms are often non-existent. Fully qualified teachers are not always available and many parents cannot read or write.
“We really appreciative guests who, since 2004, have helped provide desperately needed school supplies”, said Rick and Wendy Tendys, proprietors of Seachange Lodge.
Recently, the cyclone Funa decimated the island communities in the far north of Vanuatu. The village chiefs appealed to the government for help. They were told: “We will look into it, but there are no funds in the budget for such natural disasters.“ This is in spite of the government sending aid, a couple of weeks later, to a community in the southern part of Vanuatu, following a cyclone. Seems it is not what you know, but who you know.
Vanuatu, made famous by A. Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific. In 2006 it was ranked as the world’s Happiest Country on Earth, by the British New Economics Foundation’s (NEF), ‘Happy Planet Index’.
Adrienne Wilson, writing for Gadling.com on July 15th 2006 said: "This Index used environmental footprint and life expectancy to rank the countries". Vanuatu was followed by Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica and Panama.
Without our assistance, these tiny communities are left to battle on their own. Children may receive primary education, but never know the luxury of going to High School or being trained in a trade. YouMe Support Foundation is working to change this.
