FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Results from the February 2008 Oklahoma Bar Examination show The University of Tulsa College of Law had the highest percentage of passing students from Oklahoma’s three law schools.

Of students taking the exam for the first time, 93 percent of TU students passed. In all, 35 TU students took the exam in February with an 89 percent passage rate. Both of those figures were the highest among Oklahoma law schools. The percentages also exceeded the rates recorded by out-of-state students who took the Oklahoma exam.

“In recent years, TU has taken numerous strategic steps to enhance our law school by increasing the academic profile of incoming classes, strengthening the law school curriculum and lowering student-teacher ratios,” said TU President Steadman Upham. “These bar passage results demonstrate that these actions are having a measurable impact on our student outcomes.”

Janet Levit, dean of the law school, echoed the president’s statements and credited the college’s bar preparation courses.

“The high bar passage rate is a testament to the quality of our students, curriculum and faculty. We have developed a strong system for ensuring our students have every opportunity to be fully prepared when their exam date arrives,” she said.
