South Norwalk, Conn., May 5, 2008– After 55 years and 14 one-man shows at New York's Kraushaar Galleries, the distinguished American painter Joe Lasker is pleased to present his works in his first one-man show in Connecticut. (http://www.joelaskerexhibition.com)The exhibition and sale will take place on Saturday, May 31, from noon to 5 pm., Pre-sale by appointment from May 25-30.
The exhibition and sale of cityscapes, landscapes, portraits, fantasies, interiors, seascapes and still lifes will take place in the home of Mary Pugh at 9 Outer Rd. Norwalk CT, which boasts dramatic views of the marshlands and Long Island Sound that have long inspired Mr. Lasker. The mid-century house itself is an important work by architect Edgar Tafel, author of Apprentice to Genius: Years with Frank Lloyd Wright.
Mr. Lasker's works repose in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Hirshhorn Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, California Palace of the Legion of Honor, Baltimore Museum, Wadsworth Atheneum, Tel Aviv Museum and many other museums.
Corporate-collection representation includes Aramark, First National Bank of Chicago, 3M, Upjohn Pharmaceuticals and U.S. embassies in Tokyo and Harare.
His many prizes include Prix de Rome and Guggenheim Fellowships and numerous awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the National Academy of Design (where he is a National Academician and the former Secretary).
He is also an author and illustrator of many books. His illustrations will be on exhibit along with his oil paintings. He has written and illustrated dozens of children's books, including the prize-winning Merry Ever After, Mothers can do Anything, Nick Joins in and The Boy Who Loved Music (Viking Press), a National Library Association Notable book written by his son, David.
