FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
The Colorado Space Coalition (CSC) today launched its new Web site, www.spacecolorado.org, as the country's top aerospace leaders gather this week in Colorado Springs for the 24th National Space Symposium (NSS).
Over 7,500 people will attend the NSS, including senior aerospace executive leadership from NASA, NOAA, and other civil space and government agencies; the commercial space and satellite broadcasting industry; the Department of Defense and military space commands; space entrepreneurs; universities and academia; and senior representatives from the global space industry.
"Aerospace has been a dynamic industry for over 60 years in Colorado and is a mainstay of our economy," said Colorado Lieutenant Governor Barbara O'Brien, co-chair of the CSC. "This new Web site touts that Colorado is now the nation's second-largest aerospace economy as well as the fact that our entrepreneurial spirit, universities, business, military, and the public sector all come together to support an industry that is truly in ascent mode."
Major site features on spacecolorado.org include:
Colorado in Space video - Chronicles Colorado's 60-year history in aerospace and its many industry assets
Colorado Space News - Articles and RSS feeds on industry news and company contracts
Company Directory - A searchable and downloadable company database of over 300 aerospace companies and suppliers in the state
Aerospace Colorado - A promotional brochure highlighting Colorado's competitive advantages in the aerospace industry
Colorado Aerospace Industry Cluster Study - An in depth analysis of the state's aerospace economy, including employment stats, job growth, major companies, educational attainment, and key reasons to locate in the state
"We are very serious about the business of growing this industry, and spacecolorado.org will be a crucial tool in those ongoing efforts," explained Ralph Christie, president and CEO of Merrick & Company, and a CSC co-chair. "Speaking from the perspective of a space company doing business in Colorado, there is no better place to make connections and grow a company."
Lt. Governor O'Brien delivered welcoming remarks at today's opening session. At the Symposium, CSC members will participate in an industry briefing with U.S. Senator Wayne Allard as well as attend a reception for Colorado space companies Wednesday evening hosted by the Consulate General of Canada.
The CSC is also a major exhibitor at the Symposium. In addition to promoting the industry, CSC members will share their activities to ensure an available industry workforce - through the work of the Metro Denver WIRED Initiative - a four-year, $15 million U.S. Department of Labor workforce development grant, and through legislative advocacy efforts to increase funding in science, technology, engineering, and math education.
"Our future workforce is the biggest challenge facing the industry as a whole nationally," explains Major General Andy Love, CSC co-chair. "Colorado will only continue to be an aerospace powerhouse by working diligently to ensure a pipeline of highly skilled and educated workers."
The new spacecolorado.org Web site was developed by the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation on behalf of the Colorado Space Coalition, with funding from the Colorado Economic Development Commission. Imulus, a Boulder-based web design and interactive agency, designed the site.
