Medical Tourism Partners has formalized relationships with two JCI accredited hospitals in Bangkok to bring high quality, affordable choices to uninsured Americans for their health care requirements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

June Bragen, founder of New York-based Medical Tourism Partners (MTP)has just returned from Bangkok where she met with senior officials from two of the premier hospitals there. Bangkok Hospital Medical Center (BMC) and Samitivej Hospital have joined in partnership with MTP to provide high quality, affordable medical care to uninsured Americans.

MTP is a medical tourism facilitator. The company compiles information about hospitals and doctors in various countries for its clients to help them choose an appropriate provider. It also helps coordinate doctor/patient communications and medical record transfers, travel and accommodation near its destination hospitals. MTP’s clients are primarily Americans who lack health insurance, but the company caters to anyone who is interested in taking advantage of the dramatically lower costs offered by overseas hospitals.

MTP’s two newest partners are among the best established and most modern (by Western standards) hospitals in Thailand. BMC and Samitivej (pronounced sah-MIT-ti-ved) are both accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), an internationally recognized standards organization that reviews hospitals for quality of patient care and safety. MTP only works with JCI accredited hospitals because, as Ms. Bragen explains, “It is an added level of comfort to our clients, knowing that the care they’ll be receiving is top quality from a global perspective.”

Customer focus is MTP’s highest priority. Ms. Bragen personally visits and tours the facilities of prospective partners, and meets face-to-face with senior administration officials before adding the hospital to her list of destinations. She believes this firsthand experience is essential to competently address her clients’ concerns. “We want to be as informed as possible to be able to address our customers’ questions with firsthand experience.”

To MTP, medical tourism is not just about the doctors and hospitals. They also evaluate the neighborhood area surrounding the hospital, as well as local hotels and quality of ground transportation to and from the airport. MTP also considers the general tourism infrastructure of the host country in its assessment of prospective destinations.

“Thailand has a very mature tourism industry which is one of the reasons we’ve chosen to start here,” says Ms. Bragen. She explains that the Thai people are very friendly and accommodating to foreigners. “Respect for others, particularly one’s elders is ingrained in Thai culture from a very early age,” she explains.

Although Asian hospitals tend to have lower prices than other medical tourism destinations, the travel time and costs can be greater. Thailand, therefore, is an attractive option for those seeking major procedures such as heart surgery or joint replacement. For less costly surgeries, such as many cosmetic procedures, where the savings is typically less than $10,000, closer destinations like South America may be more attractive. So far, about sixty percent of inquiries come from people seeking elective surgeries such as cosmetic or weight loss procedures. MTP is currently reviewing JCI accredited providers in South America to round out its offerings.

MTP helps its clients find the best medical providers at the best prices including travel and accommodation costs. It is a single source provider of information, travel planning and logistical services targeted to people seeking healthcare abroad.
