A Monmouth County dentist was interviewed for NJ sports news. Michael Bixby, DMD advocates mouthguards in football.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

The Epoch Times interviewed Michael Bixby, DMD, of Atlantic Center for Advanced Dentistry in Red Bank, NJ for expertise on preventing oral injuries common among athletes. Bixby, a sports dentist with a wide following in Monmouth County, is an advocate for oral safety procedures in football. The Atlantic Center for Advanced Dentistry is a leading member of the Monmouth County Coalition Medical Response team.

According to Bixby, having an athlete’s facial muscles in complete relaxation can improve posture and enhance upper body strength upwards of 50 percent. Bixby partnered with Dr. Anil Makkar and trainer Chuck Sproule to develop a mouthguard (PPM) precisely to promote the athlete’s ability to prevent jaw damage and improve performance.
"The guard itself is designed to protect your teeth in an impact," Bixby said.

"It is also designed to protect an impact in the jaw from traveling through the joint into the skull. Relaxed muscles are actually more resistant to injury. It has a better ability to flex rather than rip. The ideal combination is a relaxed muscle and material that protects the joint from impacts. The PPM does both,” adds the Red Bank dentist.

According to the makers of the PPM, range of motion, strength, and flexibility improve with use of the mouthguard.

The new mouthguard is expected to protect against major oral traumas among football, basketball, soccer, and baseball players and can even help participants in such sports as figure skating.
