Clever hip hop artist uses Obama to promote new album. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
New York, NY, June 30, 2008 – New York based rapper Chris Classic might want to consider writing ad copy after a career of writing rhymes. He's found quite an interesting and popular way of promoting his new "mix tape" due to be released tomorrow... namely, Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama.
Classic used a computer program to crop his face seamlessly onto the body of Obama, using the cover of the Senators' book 'The Audacity of Hope', and changing it to 'The Audacity of Dope - Thoughts on Reclaiming the Hip Hop Dream'. Although "dope" is not a term one would expect to be associated with the Democratic agenda, in hip hop culture it's widely used to describe something phenomenal. "It's really about the ability to show creativity, freshness and musical range in an age where there seems to be none or very little..." says Classic, "...the audacity to be different and the desire for change within the structure of my musical scene."
The cover of the mix tape has caused quite a buzz in the MySpace community and on the streets of Manhattan where Classic is advertising it via business cards and flyers. The Audacity of Dope is a preview of his upcoming album The Radio Project , (where he re-creates the New York City radio dial) and is a collection of original songs along with self-made remixes of already popular artists like N.E.R.D., Robin Thicke, Usher and Santogold to name a few. It will be made available for free download online starting Tuesday, July 1st on his MySpace page and www.chrisclassicmusic.com
Chris Classic has been heavily involved in Hollywood's music scene via DeeTown Entertainment, writing and performing songs for popular films like Harold & Kumar, Transformers, Jumper, Alvin & The Chipmunks, Fantastic Four, Epic Movie and about twenty other movies. He aspires to have as much success in the recording industry as he is having in the film arena. For that, he may need audacity and hope.
