FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Wiltshire Chocolatier Lick the Spoon were delighted to be named as one of the eighteen finalists chosen from hundreds of businesses across the U.K. for the Waitrose and Country Living magazine Made In Britain Awards announced this week.
The awards seek to reward those companies that "really stand out from the rest - producing the finest British fare, using traditional skills, innovative production and an emphasis on true quality".
Five Made In Britain food producers of the year will be chosen from the finalists at a ceremony to be held in London in September. Each will win £5000 to develop their business, and a guarantee from Waitrose to stock their product, which will also be displayed at the Country Living Christmas Fair 2008. The overall Made In Britain Food Champion of the Year will be chosen from these winners and will receive an additional £5000.
Chocolatier Diana Short is delighted to be announced as a finalist and attributes the success to the “combination of quality ingredients, original recipes and the wonderful produce of Wiltshire and the West country”. Two of Lick the Spoon's chocolate selections were viewed by the judges, the “One for Me One for You” selection which was last year's Taste of The West category winner, and their new “Wonders of the West” fresh chocolate collection. Diana described the Wonders of the West collection as "encapsulating everything we are passionate about, fresh chocolates without compromise, ingredients from small producers as passionate about their products as we are and recipes inspired by the countryside!".
The small family business has only been going for 18 months but demand has been so high that they now plan to open a small artisan production unit in the Chippenham area later this year. "We have a real head of steam behind us now" explained Diana, "being a finalist has given us the confidence to take the business to the next level and really go for it...we've just introduced international shipping following a number of international enquiries and appointed a U.S. agent to allow us to export to the U.S.".
Their chocolates can be bought from their website or from select retail outlets, amongst them, The Allington Farm shop who supply them with the cream and local honey for their creations.
“We're keeping our fingers crossed for the September awards ” says Diana…!
