No-one wants to see a clapped out old banger rusting on their driveway. Yet every two minutes, someone in the UK decides that their trusty means of transportation has reached the end of its life and abandons it to rack and ruin according to figures monitored by scrap car firm, National Car Disposals.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

“In the last 8 years, scrapping your car has become decidedly unfashionable, with local authorities calculating a 750% increase in illegally abandoned cars on the nation’s highways and byways,” confirmed National Car Disposal’s director, Natalie Fear.

Scrap cars pose a serious environmental problem with their oil leaks, flat tyres, interior upholstery and plastic facias often left to the elements. According to environmental charity Waste Watch, just one litre of waste oil from an abandoned car has the power to contaminate up to one million litres of water and affect soil fertility when leaked onto the ground.

If the environmental impact hasn’t been weighing heavily on the minds of the estimated 2 million disenchanted owners each year, then the paperwork legally required by the DVLA is a minefield that few car owners are not prepared to wade through when it comes to car disposal.

Scrap car collection and car disposal service National Car Disposals is tackling the problem with a 24-hour collection and recycling scheme which offers owners a Ł60 cash back incentive. Thought to be one of the fastest car collection and recycling schemes in the country, the scrap car scheme guarantees to dispose of unwanted vehicles in accordance with the DVLA’s Removal and Disposal of Vehicles regulations.

By paying the registered owners of unwanted cars to responsibly scrap their vehicle at the end of its working life, the agency hopes to reduce the number of motors left to rot. Car owners will also avoid the hefty fine handed out to anyone not informing the DVLA of the change of circumstance.

Natalie Fear added, “The days of driving around scrap yards and trying to find one willing to take your old car are thankfully, long gone – as are the days of having to pay for the privilege. From recycling old tyres to produce energy and recycling as much as 98% of the metal used in car construction, an end of life vehicle can go on to make a considerable contribution to the general population when correctly disposed of.”
