Forgan’s Ian Woosnam has finished his first day at the top of the leader-board in the augural Casa Serena Open, Czech Republic – posting a six under par round of 65.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Woosnam who is looking to secure his third victory on his debut season in the European Seniors Tour is currently leading the Order of Merit, ahead of second placed Bernard Langher, after wins at the Parkridge Polish Seniors Championship and Russian Seniors Open earlier in the season.

A victory at the Casa Serena Open would leave the international legend in an almost untouchable position to lift The John Jacobs Trophy.

Ian Woosnam commented, "I tried something different on the practice range this morning with my swing and it seemed to work a bit better. I was coming down on the ball a bit more. If I do that again tomorrow I'm back in the groove. It's a good start." Source: Google News

Woosie opened his Order of Merit bid with a birdie on the first hole and four consecutive birdies from the sixth. Dropping his only shot at the 10th, Woosnam picked up a shot on the 14th and closed with another birdie – leaving the Welshman one stroke ahead of America’s Pete Oakley, and Order of Merit contender Bernhard Langher tied in fourth place on 4-under par 67.
Gordon J Brand, looking for a hat-trick at the Casa Serena Open after consecutive wins at Slaley Hall and Woburn in August, closed the opening round on 3-under par 68.

Fellow Forgan signing and friend, ‘DJ’ Russell closed on 7-over par 78 to finish tied in 67th position after an unfortunate string of bogeys in his opening round and one double bogey at the eighth. Russell regrouped on the back nine with consecutive birdies at the tenth and eleventh.
