FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Energi plc has suggested the following steps which should be undertaken by any household which is considering installing a residential solar energy system and/or home wind turbines. Investing in renewable energy does not come cheap so it’s worth doing some research and familiarising yourself with the terminology.
It’s also worth spending some time determining your current energy usage in order to give one of our consultants a clear picture of your energy requirements. If we have a clear picture of your household’s requirements we can provide you with a bespoke system specific to your households needs, whether it is an array of solar roof panels, a combination of solar panels and a wind turbine, or just a wind turbine to provide your domestic energy source.
Determine how much energy you need
Spend a few hours going back over your energy bills for at least the past twelve months. Compare your energy usage through the summer and the winter. If you still have copies of your energy bills going back several years, compare last winter with the previous winter and the same for each summer.
If you find one winter the bills were significantly cheaper than the following winter, try to determine why this is. A mild winter possibly, or the winter before you bought that giant American style fridge, or maybe it was the year the kids went away skiing for a month meaning the lights were actually switched off for a change?
Try to get an average for the year and ideally try to get a figure for a hot summer and a mild summer, as well as a figure for a harsh winter and a mild winter. Being able to predict your energy consumption is paramount in helping one of Energi plc’s consultants provide a bespoke plan of action to suit your household’s specific requirements.
Cut back on usage
Investment in renewable energy doesn’t come cheap so it’s worth looking at where one can cut their overall consumption. Many people still leave their TV on standby rather than turning it off all together. I’m terrible for leaving the landing light on 24/7 or leaving the fridge door open at night to illuminate the kitchen whilst I make a snack.
Many people, me included don’t appreciate this slow and steady trickle of electricity we are using for no real reason. We probably have no idea how much this adds to our annual or quarterly bills but rest assured, it’s certainly money down the drain.
Try to think of electricity as a tap, we don’t leave the cold tap running all day long to make filling the kettle marginally simpler and would never dream of doing such a thing. Even an intermittent drip drives most of us to distraction and prompts us to replace the washer as soon as possible. If we could hear the electricity audibly dripping away maybe we’d think twice about leaving the TV on standby or the landing light on.
