While hockey continues to flourish in Asia, Hong Kong has cornered the market after launching its inaugural event Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament last May.

Professional hockey is in full swing in North America and Europe, but over in Asia players are swarming to Hong Kong to get a taste of intense on ice action.
The surge in enthusiasm for the sport has coincided with the launch of one of Asia’s most spectacular ice rinks. Mega Ice rink is Hong Kong’s first venue that’s able to host Olympic qualifying games and international leagues. The facility has further advanced Hong Kong’s position as the host of world tournaments in ice sports.
Last May, Mega Ice held its first international ice hockey tournament, drawing 60 teams from around the world.
Powerhouses like Japan, Toronto, Beijing and United Arabs Emirates sent highly competitive teams to compete at the Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament, which was won by the Hong Kong Tigers. This year’s tournament promises to be even better.
With ice hockey taking off in popularity around the world, Hong Kong-based Mega Ice has positioned itself take full advantage of the growing interest in the sport.
Ice skating is one of the world’s finest fitness activities. The U.S. President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has rated ice skating as one of the best sports for maintaining physical fitness, and it can be enjoyed for a lifetime from ages 2 to 80 plus. It is also one of the best sports for children all year round.
Mega Ice also focuses on youth development. Organized by Mega Ice, the Penguins Hockey Club is an ice hockey program specifically designed for ice hockey players at the beginner level. Numerous ice hockey teams from Penguins will actively participate in the tournament’s Youth Divisions.
The 2009 Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament will not only act as a platform for the Hong Kong players to polish their skills, but it also provides a priceless opportunity for up-and-coming stars to learn from world class international teams.
Mega Ice also offers a systematic coaching program to students developed according to the Ice Skating Institute (ISI). The ISI Recreational Ice Skater Test Program was created and used as a worldwide standard for more than 40 years, and provides a logical progression of skating skills’ development.
