Singapore, 30 November, 2008 – Singapore’s tourism numbers remain strong and the Novotel Clarke Quay continues to reap the rewards from the Southeast Asian nation’s attractiveness to tourists and business travelers alike.
Arrivals for the first quarter of 2008 were encouraging with Singapore welcoming some 2.6 million tourists. March data of 908,000 visitors represented a 5.7 percent increase year on year – a new record for the month.
By the end of 2012, the Singapore Tourism Board predicts annual visitor arrivals will hit 13.9 million, and foreign exchange receipts are expected to register US$14.9 billion.
Amid the tourism surge, the STB has announced it started its “A Sweet Christmas in Singapore” campaign for the festive season, with attractive “Kids Free” offerings for children below 12 years old.
Speaking at a recent forum, STB deputy chairman Lim Neo Chian outlined some of the challenges facing Singapore’s tourism industry, citing the primacy of customer care and the fact that today’s travelers seek high levels of service.
To help the country meet these challenges, the government has embarked on a range of initiatives, including an S$360 million (US$237 million) Tourism Travel Plan aimed at training some 74,000 workers over the coming three years.
Lim believes with a continued emphasis on service quality and a well-motivated workforce, the Singaporean hospitality industry will undoubtedly flourish.
