WAKE FOREST, NC – March 19, 2009 — The Trentini Foundation, a volunteer-run organization honoring former Wake Forest-Rolesville High School teacher and football coach, Anthony J. Trentini, by giving back to the community through scholarships and grants, today announced Wake Forest University head football coach, Jim Grobe, as Keynote Speaker for the 29th annual Trentini Banquet. The event will be held in downtown Wake Forest and honors outstanding local high school seniors for academic achievement.
After leading the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to back-to-back bowl game wins, Coach Grobe is known for transforming players into champions. As the Keynote Speaker for the Trentini Banquet, Coach Grobe will discuss how building the WFU football program from the ground up has enabled him to fulfill his professional and personal potential.
“We are very pleased that Coach Grobe will be speaking at this year’s banquet. He is widely recognized for developing numerous respected football programs, and our youth will gain significant value from his insight on leadership, both on and off the field,” said Tommy Murray, board member for the Trentini Foundation. “This event hopes to carry on Coach Trentini’s legacy and inspire students to become better leaders and citizens.”
Tony Trentini, a health and physical education teacher who also coached football, girl’s basketball and baseball at Wake Forest Rolesville High School for seven years, died suddenly at the age of 45. The Trentini Foundation was established several years later as a way to honor Tony’s impact on friends, students, colleagues and members of the community.
This year the Foundation will award one $30,000 scholarship and five $1,000 scholarships to the semifinalists. The scholarship is presented to a graduate of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School on the basis of overall achievement, self- development, character, and social development. The Foundation also gives out $10,000 in teacher grants and a $2,000 Technical School Award.
The event will take place on April 25, 2009 at 6:30pm at The Forks Cafeteria in Downtown Wake Forest. Tickets for the event are now available by calling Betsy Adams at 919-556-4454.
