Travellers Essentials, which is also known as http://www.bagsandluggage.co.uk, has these top tips to help you prevent losing your luggage...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

School is officially out for summer and thousands of Brits are heading for wider shores, in a bid to top up their tan, alleviate stress and simply take a break from the gloom and doom of the credit crunch. However, many holidaymakers, before even reaching their destination, end up losing their baggage from the get-go, making the whole holiday experience more stressful than it should be.

Industry figures last month show that British Airways, Iberia and bmi are among Europe’s worst airlines for losing luggage and so Travellers Essentials, which is also known as http://www.bagsandluggage.co.uk, has these top tips to help you prevent losing your luggage...

1) Consider a carry-on...
If you are flying to a European/Mediterranean destination, you could consider simply taking a carry-on cabin bag, rather than checking in luggage. This, of course, does depend on the duration of your holiday and the destination. Make sure you check the airline rules as you do not want to be told you cannot carry on your carry-on!

2) Use luggage tags...
This really is a case of as it says on the tin. Luggage tags are cheap, simple to use and can help you identify your luggage (and can also help the airline or travel operator get the bags to you, should they lose it or encounter any disruptions to their service).

3) Use some fabric...
An increasingly popular option among many holiday makers is to simply tie a ribbon or bandana on the bag handle so it stands out. It is probably not as efficient as a luggage tag but will certainly make your bag more recognisable. It also means anyone with a similar bag won’t pick yours up!

4) Pack business cards
If you happen to keep a couple of business cards in your bag, this will make it easier for whoever finds your bag to get in touch with you. Keeping contact information inside and outside of the bag is the best way to ensure your bag gets back to you, should it get lost in the first place.

5) A picture is worth a thousand words...
Take a picture of your bag before you leave and keep the picture with you so that if your bag or luggage does get lost, you can show the picture to the airport staff to aid their search.

6) When checking-in...
Do not be idle and assume all will go to plan. When you get given your documents after yielding your bag into the presumably capable hands of the check-in staff, wait to see the appropriate labels being placed on your baggage.

7) And finally...
A distinctive bag is likely to make life easier for you, in that fewer people are likely to pick it up. Avoid black, grey and brown bags and perhaps choose something more unique, such as the Carlton Glider II Hard Trolley Case.
