McDonough Holland & Allen PC attorneys Susanne Meyer Brown and Matthew Visick have earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional (AP) status.

SACRAMENTO/OAKLAND, CALIF., Sept. 9, 2009 – McDonough Holland & Allen PC attorneys Susanne Meyer Brown and Matthew Visick earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional (AP) status. Among a small group of accredited California attorneys, Brown’s and Visick’s credentialing positions them to steer clients through the complexities of green building design, construction and operations.

Brown and Visick earned their accreditations by passing an examination that tested their understanding of green building practices and principles. The LEED AP exam was designed and launched in 2001 to recognize individuals’ understanding of green building practices and principles, as well as to ensure familiarity with LEED requirements, recourses and processes. A LEED AP has taken and passed the exam and possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the design process, to support and encourage integrated design, and to streamline the LEED application and certification process.
Brown, who practices in McDonough’s Oakland office, concentrates on public and municipal law, advising on transactional matters in real estate, redevelopment, land use and public contracting for public agencies and private entities. She also has experience in all phases of civil litigation focusing on commercial real estate matters. Having begun her career as a leasing agent with Goldsmith & Lathrop in Emeryville, Calif., Brown has 19 years of experience evaluating real estate and land use deals from a variety of angles. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (1997) and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Pomona College (1988).
Also working from the firm’s Oakland office, Visick is a member of the Public Law Practice Group, where he provides advisory, transactional and litigation services related to general municipal issues for cities, counties and other public agencies in the Bay Area. Prior to joining the firm in 2008, Visick gained first-hand exposure to environmental issues as a legal extern for the California Public Utilities Commission. He has co-authored a number of articles in support of green building practices and, most recently, was a co-presenter of “Dealing with Greenhouse Gas Emissions & CEQA: Practical Advice on Analysis & Mitigation.” Visick earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (2008), where he was editor-in-chief of the Hastings West-Northwest Journal of Environmental Law & Policy. He also has a B.F.A. from California College of the Arts (2000).
