Appointment of Former Waste Management Executive Further Strengthens Firm’s Environmental Services Offering

Chicago, Ill - Nov. 3, 2009 – Pebble Creek Partners, LLC, a consulting firm providing advisory services to environmental, transportation, Cleantech and professional services businesses and their investing organizations, today announced the appointment of Thomas Riek, 49, as partner at its Chicago-area headquarters.
“Tom brings more than 25 years of experience in management, operations, finance and accounting in the environmental and waste management areas,” said Pebble Creek Partners founding partner, Dave Galanis. “We welcome him to our leadership team and believe that his expertise will bring new value to our clients and contribute to Pebble Creek’s future growth.”
Prior to joining Pebble Creek, Riek served as chief executive officer of Container Recycling Alliance (CRA), an industry-leading recycling organization for recovering glass containers from the waste stream for reuse in the manufacture of new glass products. Under Riek’s guidance, CRA achieved the highest level of profitability in the decades-long history of the firm by increasing volume and capacity utilization, effectively managing costs and implementing strategic pricing. Riek was also instrumental in the acquisition of CRA from Waste Management, Inc. and its subsequent sale to Strategic Materials, Inc.
Before CRA, Riek was the chief financial officer of Recycle America Alliance (RAA), an $800 million subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc. At RAA, Riek created and led the 100-plus member financial team in the areas of accounting, information systems, credit, trading and financial reporting. Additionally, he helped direct the creation of RAA by guiding the separation of the recycling business of Waste Management, which was combined with The Peltz Group, the nation’s largest privately held recycling company, to create RAA.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, and a master’s degree of business administration from DePaul University.
