NEW STAR-STUDDED AWARD WINNING SERIES “DIARY OF A SINGLE MOM” BLAZING THE FUTURE OF INTERNET
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
March 22, 2010 (Los Angeles, CA.) - Robert Townsend, multi-talented hollywood heavyweight, proves again to be one of the hardest working icons in Hollywood with his new documentary (Why We Laugh), two new movies (Phantom Punch and Of Boys & Men), a national tour (Ultimate Pitch Master Class), award winning web series (Diary of a Single Mom) and still making time for his philanthropic efforts with his Robert Townsend Foundation. A visionary and innovator, Townsend has set a new standard for creating in the midst of Hollywood’s challenges.
Townsend’s new hit series entitled, “Diary of a Single Mom,” starring Hollywood legends Billy Dee Williams, Richard Roundtree, and actors Monica Calhoun and Leon (The Five Heartbeats) is receiving critical acclaim and winning awards. The show is a powerful drama that chronicles the lives and challenges of three single mothers (from different nationalities and backgrounds) and their families trying to get ahead despite obstacles that all single mothers face, such as childcare, health, abuse, education and finances. Whats different is the website also provides important resources to single mothers and their families including; domestic abuse hotlines, homework help websites, child abuse services and YMCA youth development programs among others. The show is on its second season and can be viewed on www.pic.tv, where a new 15 minute episode premieres each Thursday.
Townsend has again done something outside the box, in creating a TV quality series, airing it on the web to bring awareness of the struggles of single moms and paring it with the resources they need. Townsend feels especially passionate about the project as he was raised by a single mother himself, stating “Being raised in the ghetto of Chicago … how my mother did it, I have no idea. We grew up in the roughest neighborhood. I think they praise NBA stars and athletes … and the real unsung heroes are single moms.”
The series also has the honor of winning the first ever soap award from www.welovesoaps.com for Townsend directing the all star cast. “Diary of a Single Mom” was also selected as the “Web Series of the Year” and will open the first ever Los Angeles Web Series Festival on March 26, 2010 with a screening of the first season and a Q&A.
