About The Charities
The Barbara K. Robinson Breast Cancer Research Program (BKR) began when Barbara K. Robinson, a breast cancer survivor, gave $3 million to Memorial Medical Center Foundation to establish the program at the Long Beach Memorial Care Breast Center at the Todd Cancer institute. Through Barbaras generous gift, the BKR Program has made terrific progress in breast cancer research, such as exploring new imaging and diagnostic techniques, as well as investigating non-traditional chemotherapy and surgery combinations.
P.I.N.K. is a women's clothing store which gives 100% of its profits to breast cancer research. The store is located in an old house in Hermosa Beach. This BKR concept opened just in time for the Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October and was recently voted the South Bay's Best Women's Store by The Beach Reporter.
Susan G. Komen reminds us of Nancy G. Brinker's promise to her sister Susan to do everything in her power to spare other women and men the agony of breast cancer. For the Cure reaffirms our vision of a world without the disease. The name conveys the original promise quickly and simply...Susan G. Komen = the Cure. As Susan G. Komen for the Cure will continue to be the world's largest, boldest and most progressive grassroots network of survivors and activists, the only organization fighting to cure breast cancer at every stage. To date, SGK for the Cure has invested $1 billion in research, education and health services.
