Adult and Continuing Education Hosts January 20 & 21 Open Houses

The Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) Program at Medgar Evers College, CUNY will host Open Houses for the Brooklyn community on January 20 and 21, 2010. The Open Houses will provide community residents with information about new career training certificate programs and provide the opportunity to win a free class.

As part of the School of Professional and Community Development, ACE certificate programs, classes and seminars offer working professionals, those new to the workforce, and those seeking to rejoin the workforce opportunities to obtain expertise that will assist their professional advancement and provide pathways to new career opportunities.

According to ACE Director Jonathan Bissell, “There are still many jobs available in Health Care, and we have a number of great programs to assist individuals seeking to enter this field, such as Professional Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, EKG, Physical Therapy Aide, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Office Assistant, CASAC, Healthcare Interpreter, Infection Control, and Grant Writing for Health Care Professionals.”

“We also have great offerings in Computer Technology, Business, Education, and Legal & Criminal Justice,” continued Bissell. “These include CCNA-Cisco, Microsoft Computer Applications, Web Design and Graphic Design, Construction Management, Non-Profit Law, Finding Corporate Sponsors for Non-Profit Organizations, Entrepreneurship, OSHA, Online Publishing, Child Development Associate, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Security Guard Training, Paralegal, and Criminal Justice. Real Estate courses will also be added later in the spring semester. The good news for those with limited incomes or who are currently unemployed is that many of our programs are approved for Workforce 1 vouchers for qualified individuals.”

The Open Houses will be held on Wednesday, January 20 and Thursday, January 21, 2010, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at 1150 Carroll Street, Brooklyn NY 11225, in the Cafeteria. Students who come ready to pay for classes will receive a 5% discount on all spring 2010 classes when they register (make their tuition payment) at an Open House, and registrants will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a free class. Accepted forms of payment include credit and debit cards. Cash payments will only be accepted at the Bursar’s Office. Personal checks will not be accepted.
