Mobile Scanning Device for Interior Mapping on Exhibited by GB3-Scout at ABC Technology Conference

Atlanta, GA, (For Release) March 24, 2015 – GB3-Scout, an Atlanta based “Interior Scanning and ‘As-Built Plan” service exhibited it’s backpack configured mobile scanning system at the March 18th Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Technology Conference and Expo. The message from the conference: ‘we are in the early stages of a massive change in the way construction projects are conceived, designed, constructed and managed. Survival in the industry may very well depend on adopting these new technologies’.

Key to the industry adopting these technologies on a normal basis is the development of products configured for practical use; systems that work for the regular guy just as well as the major players. GB3-Scout was founded on that concept.

Using a unique, patented, fully mobile, backpack configured laser scanning system, one of the firm’s operators scans an interior space and downloads the scan data in the form of a point-cloud to a CAD designer. The designer then develops a floor plan of the space scanned. A video record of the scan is completed simultaneously, along with still photos and field verified baseline measurements. GB3-Scout uses AutoDesk’s Revit software for plan development which allows a delivery of CAD files in multiple formats as well as providing detailed elevations and 3D modeling.

This is a new configuration of existing technologies. While 3D capable, the developer has “flattened” the cloud to allow GB3 to produce a simple, inexpensive, and fast existing conditions floor plan. It is a big tool for the little guy. Its application has been developed to serve the vast majority of renovations and design jobs which do not require 3D output. The system can be used in tight and occupied spaces or to confirm the size and dimension of warehouses. There is no stationary setup that has to be moved and re-setup. The entire scan of a typical interior takes only 15-20 minutes and enables the designer to turn drawings much quicker than manual practices allow, often in the same day. The system has been used to develop plans for apartments, office space, warehouses, and residential property. The company can scan and send point cloud files directly to the client’s own drafting team if desired.
