Minnesota IT-accessibility company hosts assistive device demonstration for US State Department International Visiting Leader Program. Visitors included professionals from humanitarian and social service agencies in the United Arab Emirates.

The Wehrman Collaborative (WeCo), a Minneapolis, Minnesota, provider of training and testing services for organizations and businesses concerned about IT accessibility, hosted on May 4 visitors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). WeCo Founder Lynn Wehrman and the group of international visitors who are current and emerging leaders in disability issues discussed compliance with IT accessibility requirements and standards for which WeCo tests its clients’ websites. Two WeCo Accessibility Specialists demonstrated technology commonly used by Internet users living with disabilities.
The UAE visitors are humanitarian services professionals. They came to the United States under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, in partnership with the Minnesota International Center, to examine U.S. policies and procedures related to disability issues, including the Americans with Disabilities Act. They also looked at how the U.S. integrates people with special needs into society, U.S. civil and disability rights, academic training for social workers and specialists, early intervention for people with special needs and the effective management of non-governmental organizations.
