Rare Studebaker Avanti Donated to San Diego Charity

One of the most unique and fastest personal luxury coupes from the 1960's is up for auction.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Studebaker Avanti was considered one of the most unique and daring cars from the 1960’s era. The car will still turn heads, and if you are lucky enough, you can own one because a 1963 Studebaker Avanti was recently donated to St. Vincent de Paul Villages. It is up for auction via Cal Auctions, a San Diego-based auction house.

St. Vincent de Paul Villages is a partner of Father Joe’s Villages, a charitable organization that has helped the homeless in San Diego for over 60 years. Thousands of items are donated daily to St. Vincent de Paul Villages, and these items are sold at their thrift stores located throughout San Diego County.

Collectibles, specialty vehicles, and other unique items donated are auctioned online every other month through the St. Vincent de Paul Villages Specialty Auction hosted by Cal Auctions. The Studebaker Avanti is currently available in the current online auction that closes on February 3, 2016.

“It’s always exciting to see all the interesting items donated to St. Vincent de Paul Villages, especially when it’s a rare, classic car. There has only been one owner of this Studebaker, and it comes with the original title that was issued December 28, 1964. Everything on the car appears to be original and it has only 95,814 miles on it,” said Jason Hanks, owner of Cal Auctions.

The Studebaker Avanti was built by the Studebaker Corporation between June 1962 and December 1963. Manufactured as a personal luxury coupe, the Avanti had distinct features that made it unique for that era including a supercharged V-8, a fiberglass body, and a padded interior. The Avanti was also the first such car to use caliper-style disc brakes.

According to Bob’s Studebaker Resource Website (studebaker-info.org), only 4,467 Studebaker Avantis were built by the Studebaker Corporation. The Studebaker factory closed in 1963.

“The next owner of this Avanti will definitely have a treasure once it is restored. It’s the perfect project for the classic car enthusiast and collector,” said Hanks.
