FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
The San Antonio Open, a WTA 125k Series Event, is preparing to host the world’s top tennis players at its first-ever world-class tennis tournament held March 13 – March 19 at McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio, TX.
Construction is underway at McFarlin Tennis Center. All 22 courts will be resurfaced and new windscreens will be installed. The locker room and upstairs area will be remodeled to make way for the player’s lounge and cafeteria.
Held the second week of the BNP Paribas Open, the player field is expected to be the best draw in the world for the WTA 125K Series. With over 100 players already signed up, early commitments include Alize Cornet, Monica Puig, and American Christina McHale.
The San Antonio Open will feature a 32-player singles main draw and an 8-team doubles draw.
Organizers are thrilled to bring WTA tennis back to San Antonio for the first time in over 20 years. “With its rich history, McFarlin Tennis Center is the perfect place to host a WTA tournament. Given San Antonio’s large tennis community, we expect it to be a successful event for the whole family to enjoy for years to come,” said Ben Goldsmith, President of the San Antonio Open.
Sponsors of the San Antonio Open include HEB, Frost Bank, Bending Branch Winery, and Cavender Audi.
