Lenny McAllister Wins Pittsburgh Congressional Nomination after Historic Write-In Campaign

Pittsburgh, PA: Political analyst and civil rights activist Lenny McAllister won the Republican nomination for US Congress for Pennsylvania's 14th District with a record-breaking write-in campaign.

The former Newsradio 1020 KDKA radio host and Pittsburgh Cable News Channel television host garnered over 2700 write-in votes during Pennsylvania's primary election on April 26, more than doubling the 1,000 votes necessary for McAllister to become the nominee.

The Westmoreland County and Allegheny County Boards of Elections will certify the official counts that were conducted over the past few days with the Pennsylvania Secretary of State's Office within the coming days.

Aside from McAllister, no US Congressional candidate in recent memory of the region has earned the GOP nomination by way of the 1,000 write-in votes required by Pennsylvania state law.

“I am honored to be in a position to advocate for communities that I grew up in, people that I have known and loved my whole life, and plans for a better region whose time has come,” McAllister said in a short statement. “I look forward to working for and serving others in the days and months ahead.”

By securing the nomination, McAllister seeks to become the first African-American US congressman in the history of Pittsburgh's congressional seat. He is the first African-American general election congressional nominee in modern times for the Pittsburgh congressional seat.

Pennsylvania's 14th Congressional District consists of the City of Pittsburgh and several surrounding communities including Coraopolis, New Kensington, Wilkinsburg, and Baldwin. McAllister grew up in Penn Hills, one of the communities that makes up the congressional district.
