The Butterfly Foundation launches a fundraiser to develop an app for people without a place for dinner, called Home for the Holidays
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
South African NPO, The Butterfly Foundation, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to build an app to connect people with nowhere to go for a festive meal with people willing to open their homes.
"Home for the Holidays is like Tinder for people with nowhere to go for the holidays", states its campaign page. "The premise is simple: people sign up as either a family willing to take someone in, or as someone looking for a home to go to for dinner. They swipe yes or no on who they want to be matched with based on their profile, and it opens a chat so they can establish if it's a good match. We wouldn't like anyone to feel awkward!"
The Foundation's mandate is to support teen and youth sufferers of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. The approach is to ultimately destigmatize the issues so that people will be open to discuss them in their schools and communities. The foundation was founded in 2014.
The foundation has negotiated a reduced rate for development of the app, but still needs around US$3000 for the project. Advertising revenue will go toward maintenance, servers, and the foundation's other projects.
