FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh to Speak on Leadership

BOSTON, Mass., -- Ann R. Klee, vice president of General Electric’s global Environment, Health & Safety Group, will be honored as Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Woman of the Year (2017) during a March 18 Women at Wentworth event on the school’s Huntington Avenue campus.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh will join the gathering and speak on leadership, organizers said.

The Women at Wentworth program brings together alumni, students, faculty, staff, and guests in the fields of engineering, technology, design, construction, and management.

The Woman of the Year Award at Wentworth honors a truly outstanding individual whose exemplary work and service reflects the institution’s goals to educate, enlighten, and inspire new generations of leaders. The award recognizes the recipient’s community spirit, overall commitment to excellence, professional achievement, and contributions to society in general.

This year, to highlight the 45th anniversary of the Institute’s voting to admit women (April 20, 1972), the Women at Wentworth event also will recognize 45 women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their lives and work.

Klee will deliver keynote remarks at the event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. in Watson Auditorium. Wentworth President Zorica Pantic will present the Woman of the Year award.

Klee is also vice president of GE’s Boston Development and Operations, and serves as president of the GE Foundation. Before joining GE, she was a partner and co-chair of the Environmental and Natural Resources Group of Crowell & Moring LLP, based in Washington, DC. For more than 10 years, she worked in senior positions in the federal government, including as general counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; counselor and special assistant to the secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and chief counsel to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

She has served on the Board of Trustees of the National Park Foundation, the Center for Climate and Energy Strategies, the Environmental Law Institute, Yale Center for Business and Environment, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School Board of Overseers.

Klee received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and her B.A. in Classics with high honors from Swarthmore College. She and her husband divide their time between Boston and their farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Founded in 1904, Wentworth is a leader in engineering, technology, design, and management education, and is known for its academic excellence and cooperative education (co-op) programs, as well as community service and support for the economic growth of the region.
