FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SINGAPORE, May 10th, 2017 – Vance Chemicals Pte. Ltd. announced today that it has been named a Finalist (one of two global finalists) in the Sustainability Category for the ICIS Surfactants Awards 2017 at the 7th ICIS Surfactants Conference to be held at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City, USA, from 17th to 19th May 2017.
The ICIS World Surfactants Conference is the premier conference for the surfactants industry organized by ICIS and co-produced by Neil A Burns LLC. The ICIS Surfactants Awards honors and recognizes outstanding achievements and commendable conduct over the past year to the selected industry players.
Vance Chemicals submitted its proprietary Mr McKenic® Plant-based Oil Spill Dispersant for consideration for the Sustainability Award. “We are extremely humbled and delighted to have our green-chemistry product short-listed for this prestigious global award, especially in a field that is dominated by many global MNC giants. It provides our SME team with the validation and further motivation to continue to create and innovate,” said Tian Ching Long, Director of Vance Chemicals.
Singapore, an island no bigger than the 5 boroughs of NYC, has some of the busiest and most crowded sea lanes. This heightens the probability of oil spills which can have detrimental effects to the immediate living environment of its 5.5 million residents. An Oil Spill Dispersant (OSD) that is environmentally-friendly is therefore crucial to the sustainability of Singapore’s extensive maritime and coastal areas.
Mr McKenic® Plant-based OSD (codenamed MM3333) is the result of extensive R&D based on green-chemistry. MM3333 is a non-toxic, biodegradable, plant-based formulation that effectively disperses oil spilled in sea or fresh water, shorelines, and other environmentally-sensitive areas. Being more than 80% plant-based, MM3333 forms a non-toxic oil-dispersant mixture that is safe for small marine organisms.
Because of its very low toxicity, 100% of the fish (10 out of 10) survived when MM3333 was subjected to the toxicity test as required by the Maritime Port Authority in order to qualify its use in Singapore waters (the passing mark is just 5 out of 10). MM3333 is currently deployed for use in Singapore waters. Video of the product and its performance can be seen at http://mr-mckenic.com/products/specialty-solutions/plant-based-oil-spill-dispersant/
