Scudder Solar Built and Developed the System that is Expected to Offset 90% of the Energy Costs at the California Rodeo Salinas Sports Complex
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MONTEREY, CALIF. – Scudder Solar Energy Systems working along side sister company Scudder Roofing, has installed a 268 kW PV solar project at the Salinas Sports Complex Rodeo Grounds that will provide energy to the office complex as well as their famous rodeo arena and will help to offset 90 percent of the non-profit’s total energy bill costs. The 25-year financial analysis predicts a savings of over one million dollars and it took seven weeks to design, engineer and install the new system.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Salinas Rodeo and bring state of the art solar technology and significant cost-savings to a non-profit in our community. Our team is passionate about what we do and we’re very excited to be part of something so beneficial for our environment and the economy, said Pete Scudder, President of Scudder Solar Energy Systems.
With a metal panel roof 80 feet above the ground on this project, it was vital to have seamless teamwork between Scudder’s two companies (roofing and solar). “We have a distinct advantage being able to work with our sister roofing company on a challenging project like this,” said Mark Jacobi, partner and CEO/General Manager at Scudder Solar. “The combined expertise and knowledge allows us to effectively and safely install a specialty solar system like the rodeo project, as well as have a deep understanding of any issues associated with proper integration of the panels.”
The solar system installed at the Salinas Sports Complex is grid tied and uses SunPower solar panels along with SolarEdge inverters installed on the west-facing roof of the rodeo grandstand. The California Rodeo Salinas was interested in how solar could benefit their organization, but as a non-profit, they were unable to take advantage of tax incentives which can offer significant savings. The project was also complex with multiple electric meters totaling 134,000.000 annually.
Scudder Solar used every resource available and provided the non-profit with a zero-down financing option which is estimated to save the association thousands of dollars the first year and over one million dollars throughout the next 25 years with an approximate annual bill brought down to 6,000.00. The new system will reduce the Sports Complex’s CO2 footprint by 200,955 lbs. or a little over 91 metric tons per year, making a significant impact.
“As a not-for-profit organization, the California Rodeo Association is always looking for ways to decrease expenses at the Salinas Sports Complex. Installing solar panels will reduce our monthly bills, ultimately allowing us to donate more money to our local community, and also make the facility more eco-friendly,” said Jim Slaten, General Manager at the California Rodeo Salinas.
