FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Whole grains take center stage as The Gourmandise School at Santa Monica Place announced today the full schedule for the 2017 Gourmandise Grain Conference. Now in its second year, the event has expanded to include a Consumer Day in addition to the Trade Day, September 24-25. The conference will feature a full slate of speakers, panels, workshops, meet-and-greets and more, where the best and brightest in the baking and culinary world will discuss the future of the local heirloom grain movement.

“The success of our first Grain Conference for the trade was so tremendous, that we wanted to expand it by offering something for the consumer as well. After all, they are at the end of the chain of distribution and Consumer Day allows us to further educate them on the importance of benefits of eating these local grains and driving demand.” said Sabrina Ironside, Co-Owner of The Gourmandise School.

“We saw a great deal of growth in the grain movement following our first conference and this year we’re taking it to the next level with a bigger collection of speakers and thought leaders as we share the incomparable benefits of local heirloom grains,” said Co-Owner and Head Chef Clémence Gossett. “Our goal is to facilitate the integration of heirloom grains into menus, onto store shelves and into consumer’s hands. We’re building on last year’s momentum with top thought-leaders in this movement addressing today’s important topics.”

For the first time, the 2017 Gourmandise Grain Conference will kick off on September 24 with a dedicated day open to consumers, focusing on vital education about integrating whole grains into their daily lives. Fans and food enthusiasts will be able to attend an exclusive keynote speaker presentation by acclaimed Baker Josey Baker and spotlight panel moderated by the host of KCRW’s “Good Food,” Evan Kleiman featuring Huckleberry founder Zoe Nathan and other top influencers to be announced soon. Additionally, workshops will be led by local grain leaders including Nan Kohler of Grist & Toll, Andy Kadin of Bub & Grandma’s, Roxana Jullapat of Friends & Family, Crystal White of Wayfarer Bread, Alex P. Davis of Love & Salt and more.

The event continues September 25 for trade professionals, with keynote speaker Dave Miller of Miller’s Bake House, and panelists and workshops featuring Rose Lawrence of Red Bread, Minh Phan of Porridge + Puffs, Alex Weiser of Weiser Farms, Chef Michelle Lainez, Jorge Gaviria of Masienda, Nate Siemens of Fat Uncle Farms, farmer Mai Nguyen and more.
