Water Safety and Survival School Debuts A New Location Serving Brooklyn and Queens
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Brooklyn, N.Y. (November 17, 2018) – British Swim School, best known for its education of water safety as an essential survival skill among a fun and gentle environment, continues its nationwide expansion with the opening of its newest location in Howard Beach, N.Y., which will serve the families and residents of Brooklyn and Queens. The grand opening will take place on November 17th from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm at LA Fitness, 133-40 79th Street, Howard Beach, NY 11414. Parents and children will have an opportunity to observe a typical swim lesson and receive a mini evaluation of their own swimming skills. The school will also waive the $40 sign-up fee for everyone who enrolls that day.
The location, which opened to the public on October 27th, is run by first-time franchisee, Phil Turner, a former D1 level competitive swimmer and water polo player. Turner worked as a Vice President of Merchandising at Calvin Klein in addition to management positions with Old Navy and Aeropostale, prior to joining the British Swim School franchise system.
“As someone with firsthand experience in competitive swimming, as well as a parent to two youngsters, I'm thrilled to provide my community with water safety and swim lessons that can potentially save someone's life,” said Phil Turner, British Swim School franchisee. “Drowning is one of the leading causes of death among children. By bringing British Swim School to Brooklyn and Queens, we will provide local residents with a critically important service that has been, until now, highly in demand but woefully under-provided in New York.”
British Swim School offers a two-step curriculum teaching children and adults of all ages, some as young as three months, water safety and survival skills, along with swimming skill development. While parental supervision is always the number one safety measure, research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning.
British Swim School operates a unique water safety program with teaching methods that serve as a trademark for the brand. The company offers lessons out of multiple national fitness chains, hotel pools, and apartment building pools year-round, based on the premise that children progress at different rates. Each child, regardless of age, is placed in their correct skill level, and work to attain specific objectives. British Swim School operates in nearly 200 schools in 21 states within the U.S. and Canada, and holds nearly 15,000 lessons per week nationally, and conducted nearly 600,000 swimming lessons in 2017.
