The Houston division of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. was recently awarded ‘Project of the Year under $5 Million’ at the 2018 American Subcontractors Association – Houston Chapter (ASA-HC) Excellence in Construction Awards Gala. McCarthy was recognized for its work on Baylor College of Medicine NRI Level 6 Research Lab. General contractors from the Houston area were recognized at the event, winners for each category were selected by the members of ASA-HC through nomination and voting. McCarthy was also nominated for and made top-five in this year’s General Contractor of the Year category.

Located on the sixth floor of the Texas Children’s Hospital Neurological Research Institute (NRI) in the Texas Medical Center, the six-month project consisted of a build-out of a new 17,400 square-foot Drug Discover Lab valued at $3.9 million, construction on the project was completed in October 2017. The project was led by McCarthy’s Houston-based Specialized Solutions Group (SSG) that concentrates on the unique needs of the Texas Medical Center and surrounding premier institutions. The SSG focuses on healthcare, laboratory and higher education-related renovation and expansion projects.
McCarthy’s team on Baylor College of Medicine, Jorge Cruz, project engineer; Joseph Khaled, assistant project manager; John Paul Sandoval, superintendent; Calvin Silva, project manager; Robert Odhiambo and Ben Johanneman, vice president of operations accepted the award on behalf of McCarthy.
