Accumen is comprised of rich talent both inside and outside of healthcare and understands the need for physician expertise to support clinical performance improvement focused on driving accelerated and sustained outcomes with healthcare partners.

Development of Accumen’s Medical Advisory Council furthers the organization’s mission to apply people, process, and technology to support performance partnerships designed to reduce costs and improve clinical outcomes. The Medical Advisory Council will serve hospital and health system partners as a resource to support clinical optimization, including best-in-class patient blood management (PBM) in PBM Select™ offering core components in performance, knowledge and analytics as well as test utilization (TU) programs.

Accumen’s clinical optimization team, comprised of nationally recognized thought leaders, partners with hospitals and health systems by offering additional capacity that enhances capabilities by providing educational tools, best practices, and clinical expertise to help organizations implement or accelerate their PBM and TU programs.

The Medical Advisory Council is comprised of the following accomplished physicians: Dr. Carolyn Burns (Medical Director), Dr. Sarah Daccarett (Physician Advisor), Dr. Irwin Gross (Sr. Medical Advisor), Dr. Jay Menitove (Medical Director), and Dr. Richard Treat (Medical Director). Dr. Carolyn Burns is a Board Certified Pathologist (AP/CP) and previous Medical Director/Chief of Pathology for the Jewish Health System in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as a nationally recognized speaker in PBM. Dr. Sarah Daccarett is a Board Certified Clinical Pathologist and expert consultant with experience implementing TU programs in over 75 hospitals nationally. Dr. Irwin Gross is a nationally recognized speaker and published author in patient blood management and anemia management who established an internationally recognized PBM Program and has assisted over 100 hospitals implement successful PBM programs. Dr. Jay Menitove brings an extended internal medicine/hematology background into a patient outcome-focused blood bank career, serves as an Associate Editor of Transfusion and has authored more than 160 publications with emphasis spanning minimizing transfusion transmitted infections to maximizing transfusion appropriateness. Dr. Richard Treat brings trauma surgery and critical care experience with patient blood management to the team and supported implementation of the PBM program within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
