Cohen Architectural Woodworking Receives Sixth AWI Award of Excellence

Cohen Receives Award for its outstanding work for The University of Kansas Health System and its Cambridge Tower in Kansas City, Kansas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Cohen Architectural Woodworking has received the Award of Excellence by the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) for its work with The University of Kansas Health System (TUKH) and its Cambridge Tower in Kansas City, KS. The AWI award is the premier honor given to companies in the millwork and custom woodworking industry. It is the sixth time the AWI has honored Cohen for woodworking excellence.

The Cambridge Tower A is an 11 story hospital tower that continues TUKH’s campus in Kansas City, Kansas. Approximately 500,000 square feet, the tower houses 220 private patient bedrooms, a floor of surgical suites and a floor of diagnostic imaging. The building is part of a master plan that fills a three city block campus. Cohen supplied the woodworking and fabrication for the facility, and architectural design was by Cannon Design in St. Louis.

The Cambridge Tower A houses surgical oncology, neurology, neurosurgery and ear, nose and throat services, and was designed to optimize patient outcomes. This required the creation of the proper healing environment as well as a space functional for staff. To that end, Cohen Architectural Woodworking fabricated decorative laminate wall paneling, wood wall paneling, a three form light valance and solid surface work area. The majority of the cabinetry is a walnut laminate to provide warmth to patient areas while giving a modern look. The tower also includes nurse station desks and admitting desks.

“We’re thankful for a team that keeps on winning. I teach our team that each day is a new day and we need to be better today than we were yesterday. This is evident in our work for The University of Kansas Health System as well as every project we produce,”
said Phillip Cohen, CEO of Cohen Architectural Woodworking.
