The Home Care Association (HCA) of New York has appointed Nancy Helenek, R.N., administrative director of Care Continuum at South Nassau Communities Hospital, to its board of directors.

The HCA's board is comprised of some of the home care industry's most experienced administrators and leaders who represent the full continuum of home care programs and regional demographics. "I am eager to work with my colleagues on the board as well as the nearly 400 members of the HCA to promote cost-effective, high-quality home and community-based services to the people of New York State," said Mrs. Helenek.

The HCA, established in 1978, works closely with state and federal legislators, regulatory agencies, and payors to interpret, challenge, or support policies that affect the home care profession, in addition serving as an advocate for home care providers, supplying them information and best practices to help improve the development and quality of home care services.

Under Mrs. Helenek's leadership and direction, South Nassau's Home Care program has earned a spot in the prestigious HomeCare Eliteā„¢ listing of the top 25% of home health care providers in the United States. The listing is based on a collection of performance measures including quality of care, quality improvement, patient experience, process measure implementation, and financial performance. In her role, Mrs. Helenek manages the administrative, clinical, and financial operations of South Nassau's Certified Home Health Agency. She works collaboratively with hospital leadership to ensure a seamless transition of care for patients across the continuum. Additional responsibilities include developing operational plans (including yearly budgets for the department), managing performance improvement and financial services, maintaining program compliance with applicable laws and regulations, coordinating and directing patient care and responding to community and patient needs.

An employee of South Nassau since 1999, Mrs. Helenek is a graduate of Adelphi University where she earned a B.S. in Nursing (in which she graduated Cum Laude), a M.S. in Nursing Service Administration, and a Master's degree in Business Administration. A resident of Woodbury, NY, Mrs. Helenek also serves on the board of directors of the NY Chapter of the American Case Management Association and is a fellow of the Advisory Board Company.
