Writer improvises his way to an exciting first book
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
San Diego, CA, Friday August 20, 2020. What began as a routine writing prompt has resulted in an exciting first novel in the absurdist genre by Tony G. Rocco. On the Steps of St. Dymphna, hailed for its originality and thought-provoking ideas, explores one man’s search for meaning in a post-modern world of soulless conformity.
“The same ‘yes-and’ technique improv actors use to create exciting theater scenes enabled me to transform a simple writing exercise into a unique full-length novel,” Rocco says of his first foray into serious fiction. “It’s been an amazing experience.”
Most of Rocco’s writing has been in non-fiction genres like journalism, memoir and personal essay. He has published a book entitled No Regrets: Memoirs of a Punk, chronicling his exploits on the San Francisco punk scene of the 1970’s, as well as numerous shorter journalistic works and personal essays on Broowaha.com, medium.com and The Participant Observer.
Steps tells a story of transformation. John, an ordinary cubicle slave, has an enlightenment experience. Or, did he just go crazy? He’s not sure, but either way, he becomes a dramatically different person. From a bored support representative, he transforms himself into a flamboyant free spirit spouting spiritual nostrums and intent on bringing joy and purpose to the lives of others.
On the Steps of St. Dymphna will be released in eBook and paperback format on Amazon.com on September 14, 2020. To receive a free advance-release review copy of this novel, sign up for the mailing list at https://tonygrocco.com/.
