Historical baseball thriller draws praise for entertainment value, prompts reflection on virtues

Author GP Hutchinson's latest release, DEAD BALL, applauded in publishing industry reviews

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – What does a young pitcher who’s just made it to the major leagues do when his fastball leaves a highly popular opponent on death’s doorstep? What does he do when revenge-minded fans and baseball insiders prove determined to pay him back in spades? These are the dilemmas Hal Gerecke faces in author GP Hutchinson’s latest novel, DEAD BALL: A NOVEL OF MURDER AND PASSION. A retro tale of love and revenge with echoes of film noir and hardboiled crime, the book overcomes the characteristic hopelessness of noir by illuminating key characters’ divergent moral convictions and motives.

BookLife Reviews calls DEAD BALL an “engrossing” thriller. They write, “Historically accurate details of pre-regulation baseball and nail-biting suspense will captivate crime and sports fans.” BookLife’s enthusiastic review has brought DEAD BALL to the attention of Publishers Weekly, The New York Review of Books, Bedside Reading/on the download, and Hollywood Weekly.

Regarding DEAD BALL, morality, and virtues, Hutchinson likes to paraphrase author/commentator Eric Metaxas, who says the best-told stories aren’t written to push an agenda; they grow naturally out of the storyteller’s worldview and, being stories first, they express that worldview beautifully.

About the Author – GP Hutchinson’s life has had its share of high-adrenaline episodes. He’s had a loaded gun pointed at him in a nearly vacant building, he’s had to cross a mountaintop to escape would-be muggers, and he came within a hair’s breadth of being attacked by an alligator in the wilds of the Florida Everglades. At present, he safely resides in a bubble-wrapped townhouse in upstate South Carolina with his lovely wife, Carolyn. Hutchinson has authored eleven novels and is a graduate of Louisiana State University and Dallas Theological Seminary.
