New series, Regency in Color, is answering the demand for more diverse Regency romance

Bridgerton series has kicked in the publishing door and made room for diverse Regency romance books such as those in the Regency in Color series.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rock Hill, SC – February 2022. If the success of Netflix’s Bridgerton series has taught us anything it’s that fans want historical fiction featuring diverse characters. Women of color want to see themselves in stories where hot Dukes with eight-packs sweep them off their feet just like their peers. Unfortunately, the diversity on screen has been slow to translate to the highly profitable and popular Regency romance book genre. Until now.

Author Gabrielle Carr not only loves to write Regency romances, but she also loves to read them as well. Like many other consumers of this genre, she noticed the lack of characters that looked like her taking center stage in the majority of the available offerings. So, she reached out to her network of prolific, USA Today Bestselling, and reader favorite authors to ask them to bring to life a series of Regency romances that all feature a diverse cast of heroes and heroines that readers won’t soon forget. These stories include:
-The Nightingale and the Lark - A beautiful heiress moonlighting as a tavern songstress.
-One Night Only - A bookshop owner daring to steal a night of passion with a Duke.
-Designing His Duchess - A social outcast in need of help from her first love who broke her heart.
-The Allure of a Reformed Rogue – A wealthy young woman unafraid to pursue what and who she wants.

“I created this series because the time has come to correct the erasure of people of color from the Regency romance genre,” says Carr. “Over the centuries the British empire has spread its reach across the world, influencing and being influenced by other cultures. This series is brought to readers by authors who have answered the call to diversify their writing.”

Interview Carr for more information about the importance of diverse representation in the Regency romance genre and how more authors can include it in their work.
