Polaris Smart Metering Hits 1 Million Smart Meters Under India's RDSS Push
Polaris Grids is a company specializing in the production of end-to-end smart meters, deployment, system integration, and data protection of power distribution companies nationally.
Jaipur, India 5/03/2026: Polaris Grids has produced and installed more than one million smart meters in its markets through the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Government of India; this is a milestone in the current process of modernising the power distribution sector of the country.
The one millionth smart meter was launched in the manufacturing plant of the company in Jaipur, and senior government officials and industry stakeholders attended the occasion. They included Chief Guest Ajitabh Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and Chairman of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN), who addressed the increasing role of smart metering in assisting India in its changing energy requirements, such as increasing renewable energy and the intended expansion of battery storage.
On the milestone, Yashraj Khaitan, Founder and CEO of Polaris Grids, noted that the 1 million smart meters milestone is a historical milestone for Polaris, as well as a telling testament of our abilities to execute under RDSS. It is an indicator of the trust of utilities and state governments, and the hard work of our ground teams. In India, our AMI solutions will facilitate two-way utility-consumer communication, which is the basis of a smarter, more efficient and financially viable power delivery ecosystem.
Chairman, Polaris Group, Rajeev Sharma, also commented, saying, " It is a moment of great pride to be able to observe Polaris Group reach our one-millionth smart meter. A financially viable power sector relies on Smart Metering. Through the minimization of the AT&C losses and allowing a smooth fusion of renewable energy, we are ensuring the sustainability of our DISCOMs in the future. With continuous effort, Polaris will soon reach the milestone of manufacturing two million meters."
The deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) at scale is helping transform how power distribution works in India — improving billing accuracy, cutting down on losses, making utility operations more efficient, and giving consumers better visibility into their electricity usage.
Polaris, the biggest smart meter manufacturer in India, currently operates with a manufacturing capacity of five million meters per year. Through Polaris NOVA, a new facility coming up in Jaipur, the company plans to double that to ten million meters annually by mid-2026. The expansion reflects the growing demand from distribution companies as smart metering adoption picks up pace across states.
The company works with distribution companies across several states, handling everything from manufacturing and installation to system integration and data security. Its solutions are built to be interoperable and scalable so utilities can expand their networks without running into major technical barriers.
Polaris Grids, formerly known as Gram Power, was founded in 2010 in California by Yashraj Khaitan and has since grown into one of India's prominent players in smart metering and digital energy infrastructure.
