Kin WTE Joint Venture announce a strategic EquityPilot partnership to accelerate a waste-to-energy gasification plant in Kinshasa, Republic Democratic of the Congo. The collaboration combines FasterCapital’s EquityPilot acceleration, capital-raising and global network with Kin-WTE’s proven gasification design to commercialize 24MW of continuous clean power from municipal waste.

Market opportunity & problem statement

Kinshasa faces chronic waste mismanagement and energy shortfalls: low grid access, heavy diesel reliance and growing municipal waste streams. The DRC’s urban electrification gap and rising demand for off-grid solutions create a multi-billion-euro opportunity for scalable, low-emission mini-grid projects. Kin-WTE targets this white space by converting 900 t/day of municipal waste into dispatchable electricity, reducing emissions and substituting costly diesel generation for households and SMEs.

Startup solution & differentiation

Kin WTE Joint Venture’s gasification process converts municipal and plastic waste into syngas for turbines, delivering up to 24MW (minimum average 16MW to grid) 24/7. Designed by MEP Inc. with Vanderweil handling power systems and HTT supplying gasifiers, the project emphasizes low-ash, high-efficiency operation and modular scalability (3×108MW pipeline planned). Early technical validation, detailed design and strong local partnerships (MUT-CREDIT, Transenergy AB, local development committees) create defensible execution advantages vs. solar-only or diesel alternatives. The initial fundraising target is $3M USD to reach first-close and mobilize €140M CAPEX financing.

FasterCapital EquityPilot partnership value

Through the EquityPilot program, FasterCapital will provide tailored acceleration services: fundraising structuring, investor introductions, term-sheet negotiation support, go-to-market strategy and regulatory assistance via its global network. FasterCapital’s selective criteria and track record signal market validation and increase credibility with MDBs, impact investors and strategic partners. The joint roadmap anticipates technical commissioning milestones and a financing close within 9–12 months, accelerating Kin-WTE’s path to commercial operation.

Executive quotes

“[Kin-WTE] addresses a critical intersection of waste management and energy access with a commercially viable model,” whose EquityPilot investment thesis prioritizes high-impact, scalable cleantech in emerging markets. “FasterCapital will help unlock institutional capital and strategic partners to scale this proven technology across the DRC.”

Remy Banyurambona Mulamba, Founder & Project Lead, Kin WTE Joint Venture, added: “This partnership validates our technical design and local development approach. FasterCapital’s support accelerates our timeline to deliver clean power, create green jobs, and monetize emission reductions at scale.”

Growth trajectory & next steps

Near-term milestones include completing ESIA, securing local PPAs/tipping agreements, procurement of long-lead items and a $3M seed close to initiate construction readiness. Kin-WTE plans phased rollout in Kinshasa followed by national replication to reach 243MW across three plants, targeting institutional offtakers, carbon finance streams and impact investors over a 30-year concession.
